Gamescom 2023 records 320,000 visitors

Gamescom 2023 has closed its doors and can look back on an extremely successful event. With 320,000 visitors on site and an impressive digital reach, this year’s edition of the world’s leading games fair saw a significant increase compared to the previous year.

The official final report of Gamescom 2023 shows an impressive 320,000 visitors from over 100 countries. By comparison, 265,000 visitors were counted in the previous year. Although the record of Gamescom 2019 with 373,000 visitors was not reached, the trade fair was nevertheless able to gain a physical presence again after the purely digital editions in 2020 and 2021.

The three regular public days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday were completely sold out. Particularly pleasing is the significant increase in the number of trade visitors, which rose by 25 percent to 31,000. From Wednesday to Sunday, more than 1,200 exhibitors presented their new products on a gross exhibition area totalling 230,000 square metres.

The trade fair’s livestream offerings recorded a remarkable 180 million views, 20 million of which alone for the two-hour opening show “Gamescom: Opening Night Live”, produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Gamescom has confirmed its status as the world’s largest gaming event. But not only the numbers speak for themselves: returnee Nintendo not only convinced with its own stand, but was also honoured with the Gamescom Award. Microsoft presented the largest Xbox stand ever and was awarded the Gamescom Green Studio of the Year Award.

Gamescom 2023 has once again evolved enormously. It is bigger, more diverse and more international than ever. New partners from the streaming sector such as Netflix and Disney+ have contributed to the diversity just as much as the largest Indie Area in the history of Gamescom or the expanded offer for content creators.

The celebrations continue with the Gamescom City Festival in the city centre in the evening. According to Koelnmesse, a total of around 80,000 visitors came to the free concerts on Rudolfplatz and Friesenplatz on Saturday and Sunday.

The date for Gamescom 2024 has already been set: the fair will take place from 21 to 25 August 2024 (Wednesday to Sunday), and the “Gamescom: Opening Night Live” is planned for 20 August 2024 (Tuesday).
