The end of the Playstation 4 is sealed.
No, the headline is not clickbait, as Sony has really put an expiration date or an end to the popular console in the room.
After (currently) 177 million consoles and the 4th place on the list of the world’s best-selling consoles, the era of the Playstation 4 will end in 2025. Only the Game Boy, the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2 were more popular. In just under three years, no more first-party games will be developed for the PS4 – according to Sony. Quite a lush transition period, in our opinion.
The PlayStation 5 has been on the market for more than one and a half years now, but the availability seems to improve only slowly. That’s why many PS4 gamers remain loyal to their “old” console – at least until you can easily buy a PS5 in stores. Even though the Playstation 4 still seems to be the console of choice among its owners, sales of the last-gen console have almost come to a standstill. Only about one million units were sold last year. Nevertheless, there will still be games that will only be released on the 4th generation Playstation in the next few years, which leads us to believe that the next few years will still be quite good for the Playstaion 4. Nevertheless, Sony seems to believe that the next generation Playstation will be more available in the near future, which is why they have dated the end of the PS4 to 2025.
