Swedish Embracer Group conquers Middle Earth
The steadily growing Swedish publisher Embracer Group has recently bought more studios and companies. The acquisition of Middle-Earth Enterprises, in particular, has been the subject of much discussion; some in the industry might have expected more of an Amazon takeover.
Middle-Earth Enterprises owns and manages the intellectual property catalog and rights to films, video games, merchandising and more related to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.
In addition, Embracer Group has acquired Tripwire Interactive, a company founded in 2005 and known for titles such as “Killing Floor” and “Maneater.” Another acquisition concerns Limited Run Games. The American company specializes in special editions and limited retail versions of smaller titles. The “Teardown” makers from Tuxedo Labs, Bitwave Games, Gioteck, Tatsujin and the music company Singtrix were also taken over.
But the biggest coup is definitely the purchase of Middle-Earth Enterprises.
