Square Enix announces Kingdom Hearts IV (Trailer)

The time has finally come: Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts 4 yesterday.

As part of a big anniversary event in Tokyo to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series, this video was also released, which provides a first taste of the new part of the game. The new part is the first spin-off of the main series since the “Dark Seeker” saga was concluded with “Kingdom Hearts III” more than three years ago.

Kingdom Hearts IV

The short trailer shows the familiar protagonist Sora coming to in another world. This one is called Quadratum and is a rather urban setting. The rather modern city seems to have been inspired by Shibuya, a district of Tokyo.

A completely new story.

Sora is not alone, though. A girl, probably Strelitzia, who is known from the mobile game spin-off “Kingdom Hearts Union X” from 2017, stands by his side. Sora should also need help in “Kingdom Hearts IV”, because in the second half of the trailer we see a huge monster attacking the city. Based on these first scenes, Square Enix seems to continue with the tried and true mix of real-time action and interspersed quick-time events. There is also a brief reunion with Donald and Goofy at the end of the trailer, who seem to be searching for their friend Sora.

It is currently unknown for which systems “Kingdom Hearts IV” will be released and when the title will be released.

The reveal trailer starts at about minute 4:
