Space Invaders: World Defense [AR Game]

Google and the Japanese game manufacturer Taito are working together on a new augmented reality version of the arcade game Space Invaders from 1978.

Inspired by the original gameplay, players must defend Earth against the Space Invaders in their own neighbourhood. Thanks to the support of the ARCore Geospatial API and the Streetscape Geometry API from Google, the upcoming game entitled “Space Invaders: World Defense” will combine augmented reality with 3D graphics. This will enable a unique gaming experience that is adapted to the player’s location, nearby landmarks, the current time and the weather. In this way, cities become virtual playgrounds.

The immersive experience of this game aims to reinvent the future of gaming and connect players of different generations. By combining real environments with virtual elements, a completely new gaming experience is created that immerses players in their own world in the battle against the Space Invaders. With this innovative combination of technology and nostalgia, the game aims to delight both new players and fans of the original game.

“For the last 45 years, SPACE INVADERS have tried to conquer the world. They are back and this time coming from another dimension. This unique, immersive game is powered by ARCore and Google’s Geospatial Creator to create a real-world playground in AR and 3D.
