The Ukrainian developer studio Frogwares has postponed the release of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, which was originally planned for late February or early March 2023.
The studio cited the ongoing consequences of the Ukraine war as the reason for the postponement. It said development of the game had already been challenging since April 2022, but the last five months since October 2022 had been “extremely difficult for the team”.
Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure have meant that the team has had to continuously work around blackouts and similar issues, which has continually re-set the entire production. He said the attacks have not only had an impact on staff, but also on infrastructure and supply chains.
In a video statement, Sergiy Oganesyan, Head of Publishing at Frogwares, explained that the game now only needs final quality assurance. As soon as the actual release is no more than one month away, a concrete release date will be announced. The developers emphasised that the postponement was necessary to ensure that the game is of the best possible quality and meets the expectations of the players.
