Return to Monkey Island – Coming 2022
Have you already noticed?
Ron Gilbert, creator of the Monkey Island games and responsible for the first two parts, tweeted on April 1 that another “Monkey Island” video game will be released this year.
What at first seemed like an April Fool’s joke quickly turned out to be a true story. Gilbert doesn’t like jokes in early April and probably chose last Friday as the day for the first teaser for this very reason. Yesterday, the matching trailer for “Return to Monkey Island” was released, which convinced even the last doubters.
Unfortunately, the first short trailer doesn’t contain much information. However, the development should already be relatively far advanced. Gilbert posted the following video on Twitter with the information that he has been working on the sixth part of the series “secretly, quietly and silently” for the past two years. Incidentally, his company is once again cooperating with Lucasfilm Games and the US publisher Devolver Digital for the development.
Since many of us grew up in the time when the original and quite pixelated Guybrush Threepwood experienced his adventures on the island, we are really looking forward to the new part of the series – even if the whole thing looks much more modern in the trailer.
We will keep you up to date.
