Remedy Entertainment announces Max Payne remake

Remedy Entertainment announces remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2. The new development agreement with with Rockstar Games has been finalized.

Remedy and Rockstar Games have been working together since the first release of the critically acclaimed games Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Remedy developed the games at the time and Rockstar Games acted as publisher. Both games a highlight of pop culture at the time, as the neo-noir atmosphere, really good story and “bullet-time” gunplay were something completely new, some of which had previously only been seen in the Matrix movies.

“We were thrilled when our longtime friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, “We’re big fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play the new versions.”

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know that the millions of fans worldwide feel the same way,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy. “We are very excited to once again work with our partners at Rockstar Games to bring players the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games in a new way.”

Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy Entertainment will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine.

When we can expect the new Max Payne title, however, is still unclear.
