Sony Interactive has been selling the new PlayStation VR2 system for the PlayStation 5 exclusively via PlayStation Direct since yesterday.
The price for the system is €599.99 without game and €649.99 with game. The package includes a headset, two PS VR2 Sense controllers, stereo headphones and a USB cable.
The PlayStation VR2 system has been further developed and improved by the engineers in all areas. Compared to the previous model, an external camera is no longer required and the setup has been simplified. The resolution of the HDR OLED display has been improved, the field of view expanded and the 3D audio optimised. Sony itself speaks of a “quantum leap”.
The manufacturer recommends a “minimum playing area” of 2 x 2 metres for moving around the room. However, if you play sitting down, the space requirement is reduced.
More than 40 games will be released for PlayStation VR2 in the “release period” and over 100 titles are currently in development. The company’s own VR games such as Horizon: Call of the Mountain and a free update for motorsport sim Gran Turismo 7 are the technological spearhead.
It is important to note that the PlayStation VR2 set is only available in Germany via PlayStation Direct. Retailers remain excluded for the time being.
It seems that Sony Interactive is assuming that only “early adopters” among the customers who are directly addressed by the platform will stock up at the beginning. In Austria and Switzerland, where PlayStation Direct is not yet available, distribution is in the hands of retailers such as MediaMarkt.
