Sony Interactive Entertainment has already caused quite a stir in recent months with various new variants of the DualSense controller and the PlayStation 5.

Now the Japanese company announced another cover design today, which is not based on a game, but was designed by a prominent athlete. Last night, the official PlayStation blog announced the partnership with NBA legend LeBron James, who has designed both an exclusive DualSense controller and a PlayStation 5 cover in collaboration with Sony.

According to the official PlayStation blog, personal graphics and quotes from James were used for the collaboration. The controller and covers will be available in limited editions and will be released in selected countries later this year.

The exclusive design is said to reflect LeBron James’ love for gaming and his community and was actively designed by the NBA star. Further details on release, availability or price will be announced at a later date.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more ideal partner to develop the first limited edition PlayStation product. It was great to see LeBron’s design vision come to life and express his passion for games and the community. We hope PlayStation fans will love the design as much as we enjoyed creating it,” said the Sony Interactive Entertainment statement.

LeBron James also commented positively on the partnership and its design. He referred to his background, growing up with video games and the influence they had on him and his life. Now getting the chance to design a controller and cover with Sony, the super athlete called it “crazy” and “a pretty cool thing”.

At best, the design unveiled today is just the beginning of a long creative journey. Because, as it concludes in today’s announcement, Sony Interactive Entertainment wants to work with other well-known partners in the future to create exclusive designs for the DualSense controller and the PS5 covers.
