The developer studio Hello Games, which is behind the action adventure No Man’s Sky, has developed a version of the game optimised for Apple processors. Originally, the release was planned for the end of 2022.
However, the developers have managed to bring the Mac version of the game to market before the first anniversary of the announcement. The Mac version of No Man’s Sky is available now via Steam at a price of 58.99 euros, with a version via the Mac App Store to follow.
The Mac version of No Man’s Sky was not simply ported, but developed from scratch and optimised specifically for Apple’s graphics engine Metal and Apple processors. In addition, all content expansions released for the game over the last seven years have been integrated into the new Mac version.
Players who have already purchased No Man’s Sky for another platform via Steam can use the Mac version at no additional cost. Cross-platform play is supported whether using the Mac version of No Man’s Sky or playing the game on Xbox, PlayStation, a Windows computer or with VR glasses.
The availability of No Man’s Sky as a VR version has sparked speculation about possible support for the Apple glasses. The game’s developers promised on Twitter “another surprise in the near future”, which led to speculation about a possible presentation of No Man’s Sky at the WWDC keynote, especially with regard to Apple’s expected headset. What lies behind this remains to be seen.
