The emotional ups and downs of GTA fans seem to be approaching their climax. Game developer Rockstar Games has announced the trailer for what is arguably the world’s most anticipated game.
After years of speculation and rumours, Rockstar Games has finally delivered the fans: “We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be releasing the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto in early December,” the developers announced via the short messaging service X (formerly known as Twitter) this Wednesday. Within minutes, the post was clicked on millions of times. Thousands of users reacted with virtual tears of joy and cries of “Here we go”.
Long wait for news on GTA 6
Players had originally expected the announcement on 24 October 2023. In the “GTA6” subreddit, which has over 130,000 members, the time was counted down to midnight. But in the end, there was only a countdown that ended at midnight, with no announcement.
New hopes were pinned on the earnings call from Take-Two Interactive. And indeed, the parent company of Rockstar Games presented its financial results for the second quarter and officially announced GTA 6. Industry insider Jason Schreier had already confirmed this to Bloomberg a few hours earlier.
The developers had already confirmed that Rockstar Games was working on a new instalment of the series when they announced the next-gen adaptations of GTA 5 in February 2022. But it is only since this Wednesday that it is certain that things are actually moving forward. GTA achieves sales in the millions
The GTA universe, often criticised by academics and politicians for its unvarnished depiction of violence, has a huge fan base. The video game series is an international mega-success. GTA 5 alone has sold over 180 million copies. The entire series has achieved around 390 million sales. It is therefore no wonder that there is huge interest in a sequel.
