Xbox Series X “Brooklin” – Release next year!
Microsoft is planning an update for the Xbox Series X in 2024 with a completely new design and lots of new features.
Codenamed “Brooklin”, the console, which has not even been announced yet, was accidentally discovered this week in FTC documents that Microsoft had to file.
The new design of the Xbox Series X looks much rounder than the current console and comes without a physical disc drive. The actual internal Microsoft documents reveal that the console will have 2 TB of storage (instead of 1 TB), a powered USB-C port on the front and an “all-new, even more immersive controller”.
The new controller, codenamed “Sebille”, is expected to be announced later this year and will include an accelerometer for gyro support. It has a two-tone colour scheme and will support direct connection to the cloud, Bluetooth 5.2 and a likely updated “Xbox Wireless 2” connection. Microsoft also lists “precise haptic feedback” and “VCA haptics that double as speakers” as specifications for the controller. It will also feature quieter buttons and joysticks, a rechargeable and replaceable battery, modular joysticks and the ability to raise it to wake up.
Inside the new Xbox Series X, Microsoft will also add support for Wi-Fi 6E, a Bluetooth 5.2 radio and shrink the existing chip to 6nm “for improved efficiency”. According to a Microsoft document, the power supply will be reduced by 15 per cent. Microsoft is aiming for the same $499 launch price as the Xbox Series X.
Microsoft has provided the FTC with a comprehensive roadmap for this new Xbox Series X console, controller, and a refreshed Xbox Series S with 1 TB of storage. Microsoft may have just launched a revamped Xbox Series S in black, but even so, there could be another refresh in 2024 with Wi-Fi 6E support and Bluetooth 5.2. This will then probably also include the new Xbox controller.
