Nintendo Direct: Everything you need to know about Super Mario Bros Wonder
In the latest Direct presentation, just under 15 minutes of the upcoming 2D adventure “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” were shown.
The presentation initially caused confusion among many fans, but was intended to explain the game in more detail. The game will be different from the previous 2D Mario games and will have its own adapted graphic style.
The game’s story revolves around Mario and his friends who receive an invitation from Prince Florian to visit the new Flower Kingdom. However, this peaceful occasion is disturbed by Bowser, who through his usual evil deeds touches the namesake miracle flower and thus merges with the Flower Kingdom. This throws the kingdom into chaos. Of course, it’s up to Mario and his friends again to save the kingdom and put everything back in order.
The Flower Kingdom spans seven different areas, each offering a variety of levels, similar to the earlier Mario games. There are different approaches: Some areas are explored in a linear fashion, others allow for freer exploration where the player can determine the order of the levels. An interesting addition are the so-called “chattering flowers” that Mario and his companions encounter during the 2D adventure. These flowers are very talkative and interact with the characters, which contributes to a more lively design of the levels.
The game not only offers new level designs, but also fresh gameplay elements. There are new enemies to defeat and exciting power-ups such as the drill, which opens up new paths, the soap bubble, which offers special movement options, and the transformation into an elephant, which boasts impressive power and size. Particularly exciting is the introduction of the magic flower, which fundamentally influences the gameplay. When Mario or his friends touch the Wonder Flower, a special effect is triggered that changes the environment and the game mechanics.
“Super Mario Bros. Wonder” thus promises a successful mix of classic 2D platform gameplay and new, innovative elements. The game will be released on 20 October and is available for pre-order. Pre-ordering supports the developers and their work on the game without incurring additional costs. Now it remains to be seen how players react to the latest adventure of the popular plumber.
