Apple has long neglected the gaming market in the past, but that seems to be changing. At least on Apple Arcade.

Since 2019, the company has offered Apple Arcade, a subscription service that gives users access to a variety of games The service includes an impressive collection of titles ranging from casual games to sophisticated games in different genres. The service costs just €4.99 per month and offers a free trial of one month. Nevertheless, the offer was never really taken seriously by game fans. Too few really exclusive and high-quality games that go beyond “just a quick play”.

Besides Apple Arcade, the company has recently brought blockbuster games like Resident Evil Village to the Mac. This is an encouraging first step, as the performance of the new Silicon chips is easily enough to stand up to one or two gaming PCs.

Recently, the company invited some press representatives and influencers to an event in New York to present selected new games. These were very diverse and came from different genres.

One of the highlights of the event was the horror game The Medium. It is already available on Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Windows and will also be available on all computers with Apple Silicon in late summer. The game tells the story of a protagonist who traverses the real and spirit worlds to solve puzzles and defeat demons. The game’s graphics were found to be impressive by the guests on the test device, a Mac mini M2.

Another game that attracted particular attention was Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile by Activision. It is a first-person shooter that was shown on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Honkai: Star Rail is a role-playing game with a turn-based combat system and impressive animations. The game shone with fluid animations and impressive attack sequences. Lego Starwars: Castaways is already available via Apple Arcade and runs on all relevant platforms. Run Legends, on the other hand, invites fitness competition with friends and is currently available as an open beta on iOS and Android.
